Three in four adults live with chronic complaints. Most therapies work on the symptom — we work on the system.

Healthspan, not just lifespan

The BodyIQ curates teachers who start where complaints actually begin: in the nervous system, in movement patterns, in everything the body has learned over years — and can learn differently. Not symptom management, but working at the cause, through the Feldenkrais Method.

Core section

Why Feldenkrais answers the chronic complaints of our time.

We live longer than ever — but rarely free of complaints. Back pain is among the most common pain problems there is; around 60 % of adults in Germany reported back pain in the past twelve months, roughly one in six chronically (Robert Koch Institute). Almost six in ten employees feel at risk of burnout. Sleep problems, inner restlessness and exhaustion have become normal. We treat more than ever — and still don't get healthier. Why?

70+ years
of research into the nervous system's capacity to learn.

01

The shared pattern

Back, neck, sleep, stress, exhaustion, inner restlessness — different problems at first glance. What they share is rarely structural. It's a nervous system that has spent years learning to operate under permanent tension. Long hours seated, constant sensory overload, chronic stress: the body holds on to patterns it once created for good reason — and no longer lets go of. The result is complaints that stay — often without a clear medical finding.

02

Why treating the symptom runs out

Massage, medication, stretching all address the symptom. They release tension from the outside — but the pattern producing it remains. That's why the complaints come back. What's missing isn't more treatment. It's a change in the pattern itself.

03

What Feldenkrais does differently

More than 70 years ago, Moshé Feldenkrais described what neuroscience confirms today: the brain can learn throughout life. Movement, carried out with full attention, is one of the strongest stimuli for reorganising neural patterns. Feldenkrais doesn't treat — it teaches the body to organise itself differently. Not against the tension, but by letting the nervous system recognise an easier path and adopt it.

04

What the research shows

Chronic pain
Systematic review with meta-analysis (2022): in chronic back pain, pain, function, quality of life and body awareness improve — equal to or better than back school and core stability training, with effects sustained to the three-month follow-up. In neck and shoulder pain, a significant reduction comparable to conventional physiotherapy.
Balance
In older people, balance improves to a clinically meaningful degree — relevant for fall prevention.
Body awareness
Staying honest: the studies are heterogeneous, larger trials are needed, and Feldenkrais is movement education, not a substitute for medical care.

05

Longevity

Mobility is rarely lost to age. It's lost to habits that go unnoticed for decades. A nervous system that stays able to learn is the real foundation of a long, independent life. Feldenkrais isn't an extra for later — it's prevention that works at any age. Healthspan, not just lifespan.

What I'm after isn't flexible bodies, but flexible brains.

01 — What we do

We promise no miracles. We teach the body to learn again — through a method used for fifty years in clinics, with elite athletes and in neurological rehabilitation.

02 — Topics

Nine fields where body learning leaves its mark.

Back

Often the problem isn't the structure but the movement pattern that keeps loading the spine. Feldenkrais helps the nervous system recognise that pattern and change it — instead of only treating the pain.

Nervous system

Constant stress holds the body in permanent tension until that tension feels normal. Slow, conscious movement signals safety and shifts down a gear — measurable in tension, breathing and sleep.

Editorial image for the topic of sleep

Sleep

People who can't settle often carry a baseline physical tension into bed with them. Feldenkrais starts before the mind does: when the body lets go, sleep follows more easily.

Adult ADHD

Inner restlessness has a physical side. Movement work creates moments of calm and self-regulation that can't be forced — only felt.

Fall prevention 55+

Balance can be retrained at any age. Feldenkrais improves the fine coordination that protects against falls — studies show clear effects in older people.

Pelvic floor

An over-tensed pelvic floor can't be trained away. It has to learn to let go and to work at the right moment — which is exactly what this method practises.

Editorial image for the topic of joints

Joints

Painful joints are often overloaded by unfavourable movement guidance. When force distributes better, the joint gets relief — without having to protect it.

Performance

Less effort, more effect: more efficient movement patterns improve stamina and precision and prevent overuse — in sport as at the instrument.

Anxiety & restlessness

Anxiety lives in the body before it becomes a thought. Conscious movement reaches that level directly — gently, without confrontation.

03 — How it works

Three steps. No quick promises.

01

Understand what's really going on.

We explain the mechanisms behind your complaints — precisely, without esoterics, with studies.

02

First exercise. Three minutes.

Every topic page contains concrete micro-exercises you can try right away, sitting down.

03

A teacher in your region.

If you want to go deeper, you'll find curated teachers who have worked with your kind of complaint for years.

04 — Research & Evidence

What the research shows today.

The evidence is promising but not conclusive. Feldenkrais is movement education — not a medical therapy and not a substitute for medical assessment.

01

Chronic pain

Systematic reviews show clinically relevant effects in back and neck pain.

02

Balance & falls

Randomised trials document improved balance and reduced fear of falling in older people.

03

Body awareness

Feldenkrais improves proprioception and movement economy — measurable via EMG and 3D motion capture.

06 — FAQ

What people ask us first.

What is Feldenkrais, simply put?+

Feldenkrais is a learning method in which slow, conscious movement teaches your nervous system to move more easily and with less pain. It works at the cause of complaints, not just the symptom.

What complaints does Feldenkrais help with?+

Commonly with chronic back, neck and joint pain, tension, stress and sleep problems, unsteady balance in later life, and with movement optimisation in sport.

How is it different from physiotherapy or yoga?+

Feldenkrais doesn't treat and doesn't stretch — it changes how movement is organised in the nervous system. It's never about strength or flexibility, but about attention and more efficient patterns.

How do I find a certified Feldenkrais teacher?+

Through the official associations (in Germany, the FVD) or directly via the teacher search on this site — every teacher listed is certified.

Is the effect scientifically proven?+

Studies show positive effects on balance, chronic pain and body awareness. The research is promising but not conclusive — Feldenkrais is movement education, not a substitute for medical care.
